Ella Kruglyanskaya’s drawings and paintings play with the female form, female sexuality, and social interactions. Her work combines the graphic and the painterly, and are inspired by cinema and advertising of the 1950s and 1960s, as well as European Classicism. The women in her work, though depicted as cartoon-like, are rebellious and defiant. This is a Robbery is a self-portrait of the artist dressed as an armed robber. Her face is all but obscured apart from her eyes which glint with mischief.
