Kathleen Ryan works with a range of materials to create sculptures that reference natural forms and manufactured objects. She arranges her materials, contrasting the organic with the industrial, explosion with containment, elegance with kitsch, and gravity with weightlessness. Receiver is a satellite dish inlaid with pearly abalone shell. Ryan has transformed a ubiquitous and functional object - a cool receptor of signals- into something beguilingly sensual.
