George Rowlett is known for his thickly-applied oil paintings of seascapes and landscapes. The artist uses palette knives and his fingers to sculpt bold, gestural strokes that are built up through heavy layers of paints. His scenes are inspired by his surroundings and are often painted in plein-air, capturing the changes in light and weather conditions throughout the day. Rowlett lives and works in Rotherhithe and the area is the subject of many of his paintings.
