Juan Uslé’s work varies between abstraction and representation. His paintings are built up rhythmically in translucent layers of saturated colour and are inspired by the energy of New York City, where he is based half of the year, and the light and rolling landscape of Southern Spain, where he is based the other half. Uslé exploits these opposing influences in his work: between organic and geometric forms and randomness and order. Ultimately his paintings explore the physicality of paint and its ability to disappear into sheer, ethereal surfaces and illusions of light.
