Keith Coventry produced the Community Signs series during a residency at Shanghai University in 2015. The works are cast from signs found throughout the campus, each embossed with a message of social conduct in Mandarin with its English translation below. The signs are meant to serve as a reminder to the students as they go about their studies. Despite many of the signs being vandalised, Coventry was able to take a rubbing of them from which he made a cast. They were then reproduced in ceramic and di-glazed by hand, resulting in the glossy red gradient and fine craquelure texture.
