Andrew Cranston’s paintings draw on a variety of sources including personal recollections and family histories. Often working directly onto hardback book covers, Cranston doesn’t start with a pre-conceived idea, instead his imagery emerges through the manipulation of materials - paint, varnish, collage – which he layers and reworks until something essential comes together. His paintings are intimate and dream-like.
