Imaginary Boys 2004, 2013

Peter Doig’s experimental approach to surface, texture and colour makes him the most inventive painters of his generation. His work often deals with subjects at the fringes of society, unnamed places where urban and natural worlds meet. In imagery and style, Imaginary Boys has the distinctive feel of a Doig artwork. The print features a group of figures adrift on a small boat. Loosely depicted in layers of dripping paint, the image appears fleeting, as if it will soon dissolve in a pool of colour.
