Jim Lambie’s work is loaded with references to popular culture, art history and music. Working with items immediately at hand, as well as those sourced in second-hand stores, Lambie resurrects record decks, speakers, clothing, accessories, doors and mirrors to make striking and colourful installations, sculptures and assemblages. Seat Belt is a chair constructed entirely out of belts cast in steel. The work is playful and suggestive, and slightly menacing.
