London, UK ( 12th September 2014) – Hiscox today announced the appointment of Michael Krefta, CUO of Hiscox Re, to Joint Active Underwriter for Syndicate 33 alongside Paul Lawrence, CUO of Hiscox London Market. Michael will also become Active Underwriter for Syndicate 6104.

Mike has been with Hiscox since June 2003 and has worked within both the retail and syndicate parts of the business. He started work at Hiscox as a MI analyst in the retail team before moving into the catastrophe modelling team in the London Market as a Senior Analyst. In 2005, he joined the reinsurance team writing on its global reinsurance account before moving on to run Syndicate 33’s North America and Caribbean account in 2012. In May 2014 Mike became CUO for Hiscox Re, leading its underwriting teams in London, Bermuda and Paris.
Hiscox Syndicate 33 underwrites a mixture of reinsurance, property, casualty and energy business as well as a range of specialty lines including aerospace and terrorism among others. Syndicate 33 has a capacity of £1b in 2014.
Hiscox Syndicate 6104 has a capacity of £72 million in 2014. It is wholly backed by external Names and takes a pure year of account quota share of Syndicate 33’s international property catastrophe reinsurance account.
