Keith Coventry’s series of Broken Window paintings represent urban decay and violence. Depicting a window pane smashed during the Brixton Riots, the broken shards of glass are abstracted into black and white shapes that are reminiscent of Raoul Dufy’s textile designs and Vorticist imagery. As is typical of Coventry’s work, Broken Window combines art historical references with gritty social realism.
